# Claim: The Strait of Hormuz is now open for navigation.

Verdict: 25%
Model: Kimi K2.6
Checked on: 15/06/2026

## Verdict explanation

- The Strait of Hormuz has been closed since February 28, 2026, following the outbreak of U.S.-Iran military conflict[^1][^2].
- On June 15, 2026, President Trump announced that a U.S.-Iran peace deal has been reached to end the blockade, but he explicitly described the strait as only "partially opened," with full reopening not expected until June 19, 2026[^3][^4].
- Live maritime tracking data as of June 15, 2026, shows the strait remains effectively closed, with only 2 ships transiting in the past 24 hours—just 3.3% of the normal average of 60 per day[^5].
- The Hormuz Strait Monitor continues to list the strait's status as "CLOSED" as of June 15, 2026, with 354 vessels waiting to transit and daily throughput at only 3% of normal levels[^5].
- Because the waterway remains blocked for the vast majority of commercial traffic, it is not currently "open for navigation" in any meaningful sense.
